Spring 2016 Award Winners

Each year, Lafayette Choir has an outstanding class of seniors who have led the choir to success. The directors and underclassmen have had the great privilege of working with this outstanding class of seniors over the past four years. The class of 2016 is a tremendously talented class. Our choir seniors have been outstanding leaders; they have pushed and encouraged each other they are great as individuals and, at the same time, made a great team. As always, it was very difficult for us to choose our winners among so many outstanding seniors.

​Ensemble Awards: These awards are given in recognition of outstanding service and participation in the various choral ensembles.  They are given to honor students who possess a dedication to outstanding choral singing and an unselfish desire to improve, motivate, and help take the chorus to a new level of excellence.  

Lafayette Singers Award: James Hensley
Lafayette Chorale Award: Andrew Herrmann and Jasmine Webb
Lafayette Madrigal Award: Hannah Shannon and Slade Warnken

The Lexington Singers Award is generously given by our city's outstanding community chorus to area high school vocal students.

SCAPA Bel Canto Award is presented to a senior SCAPA vocal major who has demonstrated leadership, passion and a dedication to excellence in vocal music. Hannah Hetzel-Ebben

The SCAPA Outstanding Vocalist Awards are presented to one male and one female SCAPA vocal major who have demonstrated superior talent, a pursuit of excellence, motivation and a dedication to the advancement of vocal music.
Quentin Prewitt and Kurtis Brown

The Jean Wake Award is given in honor of Jean Wake, a former choral director at Lafayette to two Senior students in acknowledgement for those students’ positive attitude and leading others to achieve a high standard of vocal and choral excellence.  
Herman Bratcher and Maya Jundi

The Grace Dean Award is given in honor of Grace Dean, the first choral director at Lafayette.  It stands in appreciation of dedicated and loyal service to the Lafayette High School Choral Music Department. The award recognizes outstanding participation and leadership in the Lafayette Choral Ensembles and All-State Choirs, for a positive attitude and constant striving for excellence and artistry, and
for exemplifying the high ideals of Lafayette High School and its choral department.  The winners will also sing a duet at their class commencement.

Lafayette Chorus Booster Scholarship is sponsored by the Lafayette Chorus Boosters.  Each recipient will receive a $500 scholarship. It is given in recognition of outstanding leadership and performance in the Lafayette Choirs.  For outstanding musicianship, attitude and overall contribution.  
Diane Clements and Sam Ifeacho

The Michael N. Ryan Award is a scholarship in the amount of $1000 and is given in memory of Michael Ryan by his family.  The Michael N. Ryan Senior Excellence Award is given to recognize a student who exemplifies outstanding leadership qualities and musicianship skills.  More importantly, the award seeks to recognize a student who is consistently a positive influence, who exhibits camaraderie and who accepts, helps and nurtures others, encouraging them to be their best.  These are just some of the many wonderful qualities of the award’s namesake.
Cooper Fitch

The Joann McEvoy Frazer Vocal Achievement Award is given in  honor of Joann McEvoy Frazer who is an alumnus of Lafayette High School and was a member of the Charmettes, Lafayette Chorus and soloist with the Lafayette Swing Band. The award carries with it a monetary scholarship of one thousand dollars and the student’s name engraved on a plaque that hangs in the choir room. This award is given to an outstanding vocal student who plans to attend college and has an excellent solo voice and has participated in music activities throughout their high school years.
