Lafayette’s Choir Program was founded upon the school’s opening in 1939. The choir’s original director was Grace Dean, and her work created a strong foundation for the program today. Dean founded the Charmettes, the prestigious women’s choir, and the Chanteurs men’s choir. Lafayette Choir from its foundation has been known for performing the best in vocal literature.
We are very excited for friend of the choir, Dr. Richard Waters in the announcement of the publication of our commissioned work. Dr. Waters announced earlier this week that his composition, The Arrow and the Song will be published by Hinshaw Music. The work was commissioned in 2014 by the Lafayette Choir in celebration of the 75th Anniversary of Lafayette High School and the vocal music program. We are thrilled that it will be shared with many more choirs and their audiences. A recording of the work performed by the Lafayette Madrigal Singers can be heard in the SoundCloud player embedded below. Lafayette’s Choir Program was founded upon the school’s opening in 1939.
