It is always a great pleasure to present the Senior Choral Awards. We have had the wonderful privilege of working with this great group of seniors for the past four years. As always, it is very difficult for us to choose our winners among so many outstanding seniors.
Service awards:
This award recognizes seniors who go above and beyond the call of duty in service to the choral department and its directors. This year’s awards go to my most outstanding Teacher Aides.

Jean Wake Award:
This award is given in honor of Jean Wake, a former choral director at Lafayette to two Senior students in acknowledgement for those students’ positive attitude and leading others to achieve a high standard of vocal and choral excellence. It is has been a great professional and personal pleasure to teach and get to know both of these students. They are both very talented and have made a tremendous difference in our choirs.

Grace Dean Award:
The Grace Dean award is given in honor and appreciation of dedicated and loyal service to the Lafayette High School Choral Music Department.
It stands for outstanding participation and leadership in the Lafayette Choral Ensembles and All-State Choirs, for a positive attitude and constant striving for excellence and artistry, and for exemplifying the high ideals of Lafayette High School and its choral department.
The winners will also sing a duet at their class commencement.

Lafayette Chorus Boosters Award:
This award is sponsored by Mr. Alex Campbell and the Lafayette Chorus Boosters. This year’s recipients will each receive a $500 scholarship.
It is given in recognition of outstanding leadership and performance in the Lafayette Choirs. For outstanding musicianship, attitude and overall contribution.

The Director’s Award
The Director’s award is intended to recognize the student who has been remarkable in all ways as a choral student. This award is not given every year and was last given in 2006. It is given in recognition of one who exemplifies impeccable rehearsal technique, sight-singing, outstanding musicianship skills, theory skills, and great leadership, drive, determination. To one who most literally never misses a beat.

Joann McEvoy Frazer Award:
Joann McEvoy Frazer is an alumnus of Lafayette High School and was a member of the Charmettes, Lafayette Chorus and soloist with the Lafayette Swing Band. Music has always been an important part of her life and she continues to perform today. This award has been graciously given by Joann’s husband, Howard Frazer, and carries with it a monetary scholarship of one thousand dollars, the student’s name engraved on a plaque that hangs in the choir room, and an engraved pewter cup. This award is given to an outstanding vocal student who plans to attend college and has an excellent solo voice and has participated in music activities throughout their high school years.
This year’s recipient is a remarkable choral student, soloist and overall musician. He is dedicated and always strives to improve performance ability and his instrument.
